Dhofar photos and stories

I lived in a corner of the Middle East (Dhofar, Oman) for 12 years and gathered many fascinating snippets of stories and aspects of local culture and customs. I also was able to record more visible facets through my photography.

About Me

My photo
KiwiOman
I lived in the Middle East for 12 years, 8 of them in the south Arabian city of Salalah, regional capital of Dhofar in the Sultanate of Oman. It was an exciting few years exploring ancient ruins or enjoying beautiful scenery with local friends. Living in Oman is so different to my native New Zealand, and I think that is part of the appeal of the place. One of the elements I am most inspired by in my photography is heritage and culture. In Oman mudbrick houses have mostly been abandoned in favour of new ones made of cement. This provides wonderful opportunities for the photographer to view and browse and record before they pass completely.
